Home of the Dale family, related to the late novelist Robert Louis Stevenson and one of the oldest farming families in East Lothian. Within walking distance is Tantallon Castle, the mid 14th century fortress ruin, the last medieval curtain wall castle to be constructed in Scotland and Seacliff beach, the stunning private beach situated on the farming estate with the UKs smallest harbour.
About The Rock & Castle
With an incredible past, the Bass Rock has played a key role throughout the history of Scotland. A religious retreat during the early years of Christianity. A fortress and prison in the age of the Covenanters and Jacobites. A strategic stronghold during the times of the Scottish and English wars. Notably it has been owned by the Hamilton-Dalrymple family for the last 300 years.
Climb to the battlements of the last of the grand medieval castles and marvel at its scale. Set high on a cliff edge and featuring a massive red sandstone curtain wall, Tantallon Castle was home to the Red Douglas dynasty.
Built in Estonia it is unique, combining centuries old shingle with knowledge and craftsmanship. Our forefathers would have used shingle to build roofs of farm houses, hence the unique appearance with all the functions and standards of a modern building,
